I didnt realise any external drives were compatible with the Epson range, I would like to know whether they are too.

As far as I am aware, you need a PC to connect to an external hard drive. Had this issue with the P-2000 and read the manual of a friends p-5000.

Apparently the Epson P-5000 accepts external hard drive units via USB so you can download/upload/visualize while in the field without the need of a PC. This would be very useful because with today´s DSLRs I don´t think 80GB are enough for a 2 weeks trip to the Falklands (for example). However, it seems that those USB-powered external hard drives may not work with the Epson P-5000.

I use the Western Digital passport drives. I am not sure whether they will work with the EPSON but worth finding out.

Hi Javier
I have an Epson P-5000, 80gb, and it will accept the Freecom 120gb external hard drive, but to do so you need to have the Epson powered, and also the external hard drive powered too, the Epson will not power it as a standalone. I find the Epson is enough on its own, as long as you edit and bin all the poor images each day, i have never been able to fill mine. It seems that if you want external hard drives and associated power supplies, you may be as well taking a laptop.

I have a p2000 and the interface is really 'spongy' I was thinking of an upgrade to the p3000; with this USB host facility it looks like a really great product.
Is the battery life any longer?
Is the interface more immediate?
