OK, so Arkansas doesn't really have any true slot canyons to my knowledge such as you'll find in Arizona or Utah, but I was up at Petit Jean last week and while taking in the scenery up around bear cave walk found this view that reminded me a bit of the slots in those more well known areas. Actually, I think I like ours just as much!!

Nice find, David. It's odd how many times I went to Petit Jean, and I never went over and explored around Bear Cave. Looks like I missed out. I guess the few times I went over to the area, it was overrun with people. The price of accessibility, I guess.

You're right Dominic -- this area is usually full of folks. On this particular day, however, the wife and I were the only ones around save two rock climbers that were literally hanging over our heads as I took this shot.

Hope Kentucky is treating you well!

Excellent shot, although a little dark on my monitor. On second thought, the dark scene imparts a mood which is probably what you were going for?

One of the best times I've ever had at Petit Jean was last fall. We were out schlepping about on a trail and came upon an extremely friendly and knowledgeable guy who was documenting petroglyphs on some of the smaller bluffs. It was absolutely fascinating! PJ doesn't do much to advertise these artifacts, but indeed they are there and they are scattered all over the place. Here's an example of what I'm talking about.

When I see a shot like this I always want to see it printed and matted in a way that covers most of the rocks with some macro shots in the two corners. I hope thats clear enough. Good Shot

Really interesting shot Dave. Arkansas scenery will probably never cease to amaze me. Hey Jason, any estimates on the age of the petroglyphs?

Actually we do have a slot or two here in Arkansas - right Randy! One of them is a real tough cookie to crack but it is quite scenic. There is a waterfall photo from it in my newest picture book, plus a shot in the previous two picture books of other areas of the slot. Unlike the other slots out west the two that we have here are slickrock and tough to hike through. Petit Jean is one of the most amazing geological areas in Arknasas and with the exception of the Buffalo River area is probably has more great natural photo features than anywhere else in the state - no wonder they were trying to make a national park out of it many moons ago (it is better off as a state park)...
