Bristlecones and Deadwood
I'm beginning to process some shots from the Eastern Sierra in California from last month. This shot was taken in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine forest in the White Mts. just south and east of Bishop. The dead wood on the ground can be over 1000 years or more. Some of these pine cones are fairly new and some are quite old as well. It's a really amazing area.

I really like the textures and earth tones in this. The little bit of snow is a nice touch. The only thing I would like to see differently is the very top of the frame being as sharp as the rest of it.

Great detail here, but I'm feeling that a crop from the top (making the log enter and exit at the same spots on the edges of the frame). I'm not sure if it makes it a 4x5 format then or somewhere between that and a square crop...
but I really like this and also like the little bit of snow...sort of "icing" on the cake

Jack, the texture of the branch really compliments the cones. I'm really diggin this one. The snow is a nice addition also.

I can't see printing it big but it certainly is a nice shot.

Also agree on the crop - but just at the margin of the hot spot, so you don't lose the tip of the cone in the upper left corner. The color in the cones is spot-on, too.
