Hi, I'm retiring the old computer that I've been using online and I'm going to replace it with one of my 2 good computers, neither of which has ever been on the internet. My question is: is there some way that I can transfer my "Favorites" list from the I.E.6 on the old machine to I.E.6 on the newer one?
If this is possible it would save me having to build a new Fav's list from scratch.
Thanks
Bob

There should bve a favorites folder on your primary drive with everything in it. Here is the location for me:
\Documents and Settings\Dan\Favorites
Dan is the user name under XP. I think this is more or less followed for all vaguely recent versions of Windows.
The folder "Favorites" has a bunch of internet shortcuts in it, plus all of the subfolders that I have things sorted under. Copy the entire file to a cd, then on your new machine, compy those to the above folder.
If you will go to Vista, the file names may be a bit different - I am not familar with that version of Windows.
If the above doesn't tell you where things are, what you could do is go to a couple of websites, add them to your favorites, making a note of the name that appears in the favorites list. It might help to give them a really strange name that shouldn't appear as any other files name on your machine. Then do a search in explore, to locate those names. Unless you have a really wierd favorites setup, this should work to find everything. This will tell you where to copy from on your old machine, and where to put them on your new machine (you'll have to repeat this on both machines).
While Dan's method may work, I would suggest you use the Export and Import commands in the File menu of IE. You can export, then import favorites and even cookies if you want.

David - that is a far better suggestion than mine.
I've neither done it your way nor was I even aware of it. My method is the word from on high of the system people from my former employer. Don't ask about the things we did when we got new computers. Just don't ask...

I am assuming that you are using Windows. There is a Files and Settings Transfer Wizard that will transfer your information to your new computer from your old computer. To get to it:
Start
Accessories
System Tools
Files & Settings Transfer Wizard
I want to thank all for the answers. I'm sure to have a good way to do what I want from all this info. And yes, I'm using Windows. The older computer that's being retired is running Windows 98 SE and I haven't used it for any serious work for a few years, just on the internet. Also, no I'm not going to Vista and that's the reason I'm making this move now.
I'm putting the lesser of my 2 XP computers online and I'm having a new, hot XP machine built while XP is still available.
