A Puffin
..from earlier this year at Skomer. Was going for flight shots so my techs for this are poor, I did improve the techs on later shots but the poses weren't as good. Really harsh lighting which hasn't helped but it's my only time I've shot puffins and you have to take what comes when it's a 3 hour drive and you're on an island!

Same sharpening technique as last upload, so would be interested in any comments...at all!

techs:
1d2, 500/4, 1/3200th, ISO 200, f5.6, -0.67, tripod

Coor - dinner time on! That's a right gob full Graeme

Great exposure control - not even the hint of a blown white anywhere, great image alround matey :toast:

One teensy weensy thing, a bit less head room and a bit more virtual foot room might just make this even better - but that's just a minor thing Graeme - nice job mate :wavey:

I'm not the most experienced in the world but you have detail in the shadow and the highlight areas so exposure is pretty good,it's sharp.and I like the comp,so all said it's a nice image.Even better with a beak full of sand eels.I like it a lot. :toast: :toast:

thanks for comments. Andy, I see what you're saying. Wood for trees and all that. I get blinkered with my images sometimes and miss out the fundamentals. Needs virtual feet and I would have probably mentioned that if someone else had posted it composed like this  Cheers mate

I like it too! You did well to avoid all that bare earth that is around on Skomer.

Hi Graeme

Classic Puffin image and you have done a great job exposing a black & white bird in such harsh light!

Tricky conditions mastered Graeme, and a fine shot to boot :toast: :toast:

This is great.

Detail, exposure, comp are all spot on.

And with that added "catch".

Very nice shot in a most attractive setting. I'd perhaps lose a little off the top to just below that large group of daises in the background. :toast:
