I just posted this one in ESS & wanted to follow up with posting it here in CANP too. It is not often I have come away from JTNP with images that I have liked. Not that they are not totally obtainable there, it has just not been any easy place for me to ferret out finished products that were not much more then basic tourist shots. So, for me it usually is just the adventure of being out there. This shot was taken last week as we had a slight drop in the fall heat wave here in So Cal. and being in Joshua Tree N.P. was actually very comfortable. Thank you in advance for your comments.

I really like the light, here! The desert certainly presents challenges in that regard, doesn't it? I think that the cactus is a tad too low and a bit to far to the left in the frame: it sort of gets lost in the corner, to my eye. The color and exposure is right on the money. The cactus, the brighter rock, and the rock in the background do make a nice diagonal line, though. Nice work!
Hey Preston, uncanny as always we seem to think very much on the same wave length. I hope to try and shoot this again sometime, I too felt the cactus a bit pinched. I used a 90mm and things really were too over smalled from reality. I needed your 135mm instead of my 150mm. I could not backup as there was a large bush that basically cut me to the bone with needles of some sort. Sadly, to the immediate left is a really nasty growth of some dead brush, so this was about as good as I could wiggle out of this one at this time. But, it always makes me look for another adventure to capture scenes as best we can. Thank you for your excellent observations.

Paul, I know what you mean about JT, I have lots of images from there, only a few worth printing. The light and comp are really nice but I too, find the cactus a little tight.

Hi Paul,
Really interesting rock formations. As you can imagine ~ rocks ~ really get my attention. The upward look in this composition is nice because it shows off both the cactus and the sky.

Paul,
Great shot from JT. I'm pretty sure I commented in ESS, but just in case... I think this is quite nice and the late light is perfect here. I like this very much Paul.
