Fairy falls
Fairy falls from a trip to the gorge in October.
Thank you Jesse for pointing out the blue cast in an earlier version. I've tried to rectify that but please let me know if it is still there. This image has a lot of challenging elements for processing and it is a good learning tool for me.
I've looked at it for a long time and would appreciate an outside perspective or two.
Canon 350D w/ 10-22 EF-S + circular polarizer.

Larry...I like the leaf detail you have here...I was up here yesterday and all the nice leaves are gone....

I have photoshop up and running would you mind if I did a quick color correction on this

Darren. Please do, your color management is always spot on and I would like to see what you can do with it.

I really like this composition, Larry - good eye! I agree that the reds are just a bit over-saturated, possibly some cyan in the water, but it's easily tweaked and a very nice shot.

Larry here is what I came up with.....

Nice shot. The leaves and little cascade at the bottom really do it for me!

The second one works for me. Nice comp and autumn scene.

I agree with Harald.

Darren- Thanks for taking the time to work on that. Mind telling me how you did it?

I prefer the second version also. The only other thing I might suggest would be to open up the black areas a little....the contrast seems too high on my monitor. Nice stuff.

Here is my best effort at correcting the colors. I hear the comments about the second photo but it appears as more of a selecive color image with the falls in B+W and the rest in color. Perhaps the monitor I am using is skewing things but the water in #2 is more gray than I prefer though there is definitely no blue cast.

Larry. I just desaturated the blues and cyans....

in the shot you just posted I now see the water being a red/magenta color

Well, anyway, I think it's a great comp. Very nice. Interesting comments about the color correction.

Darren- Thanks for the help and info. I'll have to relook at how I'm doing color correction. I'm using Elements 5 and I'm not sure if it has the same capabilities of CS2 and 3.

I agree, a wonderful positioning of foreground and background elements. The blacks are blocked up on my monitor also, but, in concert with the vibrant hues of the leaves, seem to make the leaves almost dance. I love it.

Great shot Larry, Colors in the first revision look best to me. Composition is excellent. These falls are a blast to shoot with so many different perspectives to choose from

Have yo tried playing around in the LAB color space? Some times it can do magic
Posted by Larry Gloth on November 22, 2007 at 1:14 AM
Erik. I'm not sure that I can work in LAB with Elements 5.0. Do you know different? I think I need to wait until I get CS2 to do that.
