After many visits and hours patiently waiting this guy eventually showed up. He flew acroos the front of the hide and landed not 20 yards from me. With a 500mm +1.4tc he was just to close. Half my images are missing either a foot, beak or tail. Still who am I to complain.

Hi Paul
Nice shot - in fact I think this one performed too well. Good for birdwatchers to have it in the open on short grass but for photography the habitat doesn't suit the bird. Where did you take it?

Pity you couldn't get the tc off quick Paul and give him a bit of space on the left
Classic 'boomer' pose and in the open too

Never seen one out of the reeds..a picture of one, that is!!! Never seen one. Bet you were happy until you framed up and noticed it filling the frame. Did you not get the chance to get your safe shots in, then remove the TC?

Fab shot and experience that must have been - David is right about the habitat, but this must have been a great few minutes after a long wait.

Fantastic to get such a great view; agree about habitat comments, but it's a bit irrelevant when you get such a chance. Good stuff.
