This is Jasper National Park, home of bears, moose, elk, coyote and other such creatures I never saw, beside elk that is, a bull elk and 20 ladies that paraded into the town centre 9pm Saturday night whilst I was in the middle of having a meal. Tourists armed flashing point and shoots standing in front of it, one ton in weight and 9 foot high with the antlers like a tree full of blunt knives. I was desperate to video the big guy in action against some idiot tourist!
Anyway This was a sunset with the first cloud in six days. I spent 14hours a day in hard hard light just trying to work out what to do with myself. This is the only good sunset colours I had and it all went downhill from there, wind and grey, just what you dont want for mountain lake sunrises.

I'm no landscaper David so all I can offer is a resounding 'GREAT SHOT'
I like it because it makes me want to be there

Where's that 720px? Stunning David. will look on work monitor tomorrow as it will show more detail in the shadows. If I change my mind on this shot, I'll let you know

Wonderful shot of a wonderful moment. Wish I was there. It loos like an oil painting.
Very beautiful.
I'm not sure why but this has a bit of an adamus feeling to it for me. Compositionally I find it sound - if I had any control over the small details on the left waters edge I'd possibly move them to the right of the tree as they draw the eye to the edge slightly once you notice them. Well worth dipping the feet into the bog for this one. Tristan

Very nice
Although one slight nit for me, and I am probably in the minority here, is that the lake and reflection are the same tone as the sky, this is a common "Guy Edward's" look as well. Personally I find this perfect "mirror" style slightly unsettling and a bit too contrived, I actually prefer a bit of contrast between the two elements and a more natural look. But thats just me

Lovely shot, beautiful location. I am with Mike on the reflection, I prefer to see some difference and also would probably have tried to get some more of that wonderful sky, its a little to tight in for my taste. Makes me wish was there though, well done on a great image

Hi David. It looks very good even as a tiny 720p jpeg - bet it makes a wonderful big print.

Mike S - Well regarding the differences between the two, sky and reflections, I havent done any toning or blending to either, it is as it was, if you look in the lower and upper right corner you can clearly see the difference in the blue sky tones and then on futher examination all the red clouds are darker in the reflection.
Paul E - the more zoomed out I went to include more sky, the smaller the mountains become, this was the best compromise.
Tristan - I guess you could all point your camera at mountains and get something similar! We'll have to get him on the moors and see if he looks like you!
Many thanks everyone

Gorgeous photograph, David. Shame about the weather - it defeats us all!
