Well, I guess this should be no surprise considering that we're talking about deviantart.com, but still, copyright infringement is copyright infriengement !!
This dude has 4 of my images in his gallery. Claiming they were taken in Scotland !!

The 4 that are mine:
A Moment Of Stillness (Oceanside, Or but he claims it's close to Isle od Skye !!!)
Hidden Place (Eccola State Park)
Tiny Vessels (Monterey, CA)
Drifting (Monterey, CA)
Make sure none of the other photos are yours !!

Wow - that's outrageous! Especially that he took the time to "reflect" on creating the images that he stole!
John, are you going to post a comment on your photos, pointing out that they're stolen? I noticed that several have commented on these, so it might be a good idea.

Per DeviantArt's Copyright Policy page:
Notification of Copyright Infringement
This section contains the formal requirements of the Copyright Act with respect to the rights of copyright owners whose content appears on deviantART without authorization.
To file a copyright infringement notification with deviantART, the copyright owner or an agent acting on his or her behalf will need to send a written communication that includes substantially the following:
1. A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.
2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or, if multiple copyrighted works at a single online site are covered by a single notification, a representative list of such works at that site.
3. Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity and that is to be removed or access to which is to be disabled, and information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to locate the material. In this regard please provide URLs when you identify the location of the material.
4. Information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to contact the complaining party, such as an address, telephone number, and, if available, an electronic mail address at which the complaining party may be contacted.
5. A statement that the complaining party has a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
6. A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

First of all, I suggest you severely blacklist this guy. Comment on every one of your pictures that he has blatantly ripped your material off. Secondly, write to deviantart, in print, explaining the situation and ask them to terminate this guy's account. Since he lives overseas I doubt legal recourse could be pursued, but you can at least get him banned from there. I'd also suggest searching him out online and blacklisting him in the public eye, give him a bad name wherever he can be found to let him know that this sort of crap won't pass unnoticed.

I see the images have been removed from his Scotland Waterscape gallery. In fact, there's only one picture on the whole site now. I wonder how many were stolen.
This guy's a putz.

I just got an email from him this morning. He's 17 years young and has partial schizophrenia. He apologized and took the photos down which is all I asked of him.
I'm not mad at him and he's trying to do the right thing..... I hope he finds a medication that helps clear his mind so he doesn't do this again. I don't believe him to be a putz, but more a misguided individual that needs help.

It is funny that I just got the e-mail listing for this post when I did. Just about 15 minutes ago someone wrote to me asking me to place my files out there in a larger format and I told him that I don't place them out there any larger because there are too many thieves out there!

This has happened to me and unless you are registered the best you can do is make the requests thru the webmasters of the host site.. It's time consuming but the ones I've dealt with so far have been very cooperative..
I had heard of an idea and wonder how feasible it would be.. Bill the offender and then take him to small claims court for non payment and the infringement would be discovered.. Make sense? Anyhoo..
Protect yourself.. Add your copyright to your meta data, add your watermark or right click protection.. Don't use your best images in public albums, keep the files small. Be polite and ask the offender to add your copyright or remove it.. Most will work with you..

What a strange experience. I would guess most, if not all, of the images were taken from other photographers. It looks like he created his own alternative fantasy/reality. Hope he'll get help.
