Poppies with Hoverfly
In the self same catch-up session that dug the Wryneck out of the "to do" list I found this image of backlit poppies and a hoverfly I waited for an age to get into the right plane of focus!

The odd lens selection is only as I was walking off to photograph a Coal Tit at it's nest site and had camera, lens and tripod over shoulder and was struck by the lighting on these beside the path: seemed odd shooting insects from 5 metres away though!

Nice comp there Mark, and what a nice image :toast:

That backlighting really works well and the 500's DoF has really helped make this work imho - good job/happy accident - attractive result :wavey:

lovely comp and the lighting is lovely, however the backgroung out of focus poppies are just too bright and are distracting

Thats really nice.
The poppy almost looks like crumpled tissue.

The main poppy looks superb against that black background, especially backlit. Capturing the insect just so is the icing on the cake. Lovely!

Beautiful colours fromt he strong backlighting. I think I'd also prefer it without the background blurs. Tristan

Like this a lot. Great colours and the fly makes it. :toast:
