how strange, that way its sequenced suggest the gull was still alive despite almost being beheaded ?

Nature, red in tooth and claw!

BOP's don't always kill their prey outright - most of us would love to believe they do...but simple fact is it isn't so. Most Falconers that hunt wild prey carry a means of quickly dispatching the quarry once it's been downed - wild birds don't have that nicety.

The photos do show a very extreme outcome , it has to be said. I guess the gull would not have lasted long afterwards as I'm sure it would have died from shock/stress and blood loss!

Man, that's horrendous! Poor thing. Nature's sure cruel!

I'd suggest that it maybe looks worse than it actually is, if the head is being supported like that then there can't have been that much damage to muscles and tendons, etc. Having said that its still a pretty shocking sequence of photos.

A good sequence of shots. I was able to follow the 'story' despite not being able to read any of the accompanying text.

Maybe it's my upbringing in Africa but I do not consider the images as horrifying. Nature is very much "cruel" to our modern human sensitivities. Great capture of a natural scene and brave of the photographer considering the sensitivity mentioned above.

I think it needs to be shot! I'm sure it won't survive very long like that. Amazing sequence. :toast:

Certainly is an amazing set of shots, and one that will create a whole host of differing emotions in differnet people that's for sure. Nature in the raw eh!
