Hi Barry,

Colours and framing look good, but at this size there is no way to give any honest critique I'm afraid. You can post upto 720px on the longest side.

I hope you don't mind me metioning it Barry and I don't mean to be rude, but perhaps you may be willing to share some of your advice and/or opinions on others images, it's just that I've noticed you've posted 24 or so of your own images, but as yet, havn't commented once on anyone else's, and as you say it is the sharing that makes this forum a bit special.

Justin I'm not so sure I'm qualified to critique professionals I'm still climbing the learning curve.

That doesn't matter in the slightest Barry, just passing comment on what you do, or don't like about an image would be more than appreciated by anyone.
Whilst there are many professional photographers here, there's also an awful lot on non-professionals who'd always appreciate a comment.
No matter how experienced, or professional, a photographer is, it's always good to get opinions on an image, even if that's just a thumbs up to show someone's enjoyed viewing your image.

PS. Regarding your own image, it looks like you've picked a wonderful viewpoint with the trees framing the scene beyond superbly.
Love the array of Autumn colours too.
One thing though,it really needs to be posted at the maximum allowed size of 720 pixels to fully appreciate it.

Barry,

Justins correct.

Professional just means that you intend to earn money, one would hope that it would also extend to a certain behaviour/attidude but alias this is not always the case.

Just because you intend, or do, earn money from your photography does not mean that you do not value opinions on how people perceive your work; sometimes what you think is a stunning image is actually only stunning to a minority but mundane to the majority. It would be nice to know this.

Giving your constructive opinion, for that is all this forum asks, is the basis by which we all, Pro or Am, assess what the mass opinion of our work, and direction, is, rather than the rather 'blinkered' view of ourselves.

Even the most individualist photographer needs to seek some direction if their work is to be appreciated by somebody - otherwise the act becomes soley self-indulgent .

I would urge you/all to comment.

PS 720 woud help

One suggestion from me - you are using the foregroiund branches to frame the subject, but unfortunately your framing is cramping the main rear element - the background trees.

If you had moved 6 to 12 inches to the left the main subject would feel less cramped and perhaps more importantly the reflection in the lake would not have been trunkated/cut-off

Hard to tell at this size, but I would also liked to have seen it at least 1/2 to 1 stop stop darker in the RAW file exposure conversion - this would really bring out the autumn gold colours and tone down the sky/lake which is currently a bit too dominating for me

I agree its very difficult to give an opinion on the shot as its way too small. From what I can see though the framing branches are much too intrusive, the beautiful autumn colours of the trees and the reflection would probably have been enough for me without the heavy framing. I also very much agree that exposure needs to be brought down in the RAW file to saturate the colours more.

But its a nice shot and thanks for posting it, as everyone else has said its only by responding to shots does this forum have a raison d'etre. As you can see I don't really know what I am talking about but have decided its better to give an opinion than not

Well done on a nice shot anyway :toast: , just please try and make it a bit bigger next time.

The size of the image actually made me chuckle. Thanks for that Barry. It's been a bad week at work

Love to see it at 720. There's loads of stuff on here in the search or articles with regards to processing for posting image sizes. If you can't find them, email me and I'll tell you what I do, which isn't that different to most people (excepty their images look better than mine  ) What image processing software do you use?

Look forward to your comments in future
