Bittern Convention
Just to show that even I can bow to convention.

Thanks to everyone who commented on my previous Bittern shot. It's what makes it all worth while.

how often do they make those amazing sounds when you are photographing them? it must be amazing to be in their presence.

lovely image.

Fantastic shot. A bit of a shame it's not completely in the frame but I think this still is great. Very well done. Do they make any noise during the winter? I thought only from January-May.

What an impressive looking bird. Must have been quite a priveledge getting such a good view.
A nice close-up that would make a good addition to a collection of full-bird images.

There are around forty breeding pairs in the UK. The population may increase during winter with migrants from mainland Europe. If memory serves me correctly the males start booming from late January onwards.

This was a great viewing but all to short. Less than a couple of minutes.
