Godwit
..I thought it was a Bar-tailed, but Craig has put me straight. It's a Black-tailed Godwit apparently.

Taken a while ago at Slimbridge hide. A pose I'd not usually post but work, life and weather haven't been kind to my need to get out and photograph things!!

Is it a Bar or a Black Graeme - I can never work it out

Great detailed image, nice comp and nice to see the bird doing something :toast:

Great PoV too, all the reserves I know of up this way where I can see them don't offer this PoV - mind you, there's a few I've not been to yet so I might be wrong

Cracking job :toast:

Thanks Andy. I was under the impression that the Bar-tailed had a more pronounced upturned bill and longer upper leg above the knee cap!!! Could be wrong though as I frequently am with bird ID's.

The shooting angle is from a hide, but the 2x seems to appear like a lower shooting angle I assume due to the extra distance??

I actually like the pose here, preening shots are hard to get working for you and this one is...

stands out for me, static record shots are fairly boring and this isnt

Agree - activity shots always add something beyond nice plumage/light and this is good behavioural stuff.
