Any suggestions for good photo locations in Joshua Tree NP? I will be there for only a day or so, so I need to prioritize!

Kartik, JTNP has never been an easy place to basically outline a location to shoot per se. There are many rock formations throughout the park and those seem to net the most interesting images IMO. The park has been adding curbing thoughout the facility making it harder to just pull off the main pavement and search for locations to shoot. In fact, I have been out there twice recently and had really bad photo skys on both outings too. However, back to the park curbing. They had limited traffic access to Key's View as a result of the curbing upgrades taking place during those two trips also. I was told they would be finished with that poriton the 26th of this month. Good luck out there. It is a wonderful place, just not easy to pull images out of at times.

I would agree with Paul's conclusion. I love JT, but find it a very difficult place to come away with images I am happy with. Nonetheless, it is well worth the trip out there.

The whole park is photogenic, but there's no one area that is a must-see more than any other. Personally I'd just drive thru the park and enjoy the one day that you have, let the images come to you . I've been there four or five times but haven't even scratched the surface. The park looks very interesting, but difficult to shoot.

The best part are the sunsets and the sky there because of the desert's microclimate, there's often weird cloud formations. Use any foreground as an excuse, like some JT's, cactus or some rock formations. I've had good luck taking some decent photos there, but then again my standards are not as high as people here, since I'm not selling work.

To avoid the road, you can hike out anywhere there.
