As I was driving around this morning the sun was trying to break through the clouds....I finally came upon this scene and with the light dusting of snow in the back on the hills. I thought the light worked well with the red barn.
I could have cropped this to a pano but I kind of liked the fence in the foreground.

Beautiful lighting, and I agree with Jesse on the snow. My biggest hang-up with human scenes like these is the clutter. It's a little like photographing leaves or flowers with blemishes. Sometimes you take what you can get, but the mind always knows the shot that "could have been." (Next time, it would be better to arrive several hours early and move everything behind the barn .)

And after you stash the clutter behind the barn, don't forget to apply your power pole filter.. Nice frame - like the feeling of it.

Overall it's a peaceful rural American scene. I like the way the barn is framed by the autumn tree, mountains, and fence. Perhaps a tighter crop or different shooting angle could eliminate the power pole on the left. As mentioned, the clutter is a bit distracting, but the scene is a good find.

I did a real nice photo of that barn with the hill totally covered with snow a few years ago. It looked pretty nice except for a horse trailer parked right there in front of the barn. I cloned it out but it didn't end up looking too good.
I think this photo looks great except for the debris. being as minimal as it is, I think a "clone clean up" would work.

Nice, Darren - that's the first I've seen of Hood River Mountain with a light dusting, as opposed to a full blanket of snow. Very effective.
