So what flash goes well with a Digital Rebel XT that doesn't break the bank?? I mostly photograph flowers, waterfalls, and wildlife if that makes a difference.

Thanks!!

Kyle. Never used one for any of those subjects only for indoor shots at an aquarium, for family gatherings and once in awhile for avian. Save your money!

Kyle,

Not sure of your definition of break the bank, but B&H and Adorama both have Canon's 580EXII (Top of Line) on for $349 which is a pretty good price. I use it for fill flash for macro and with a flash extender for birds,

Kyle,

I bought the 430EX for my 20D. It's about $130 cheaper than the 580EX. It has the same necessarily features the 580EX has (such as FE compensation), just a bit less power. It's been just great for me, and has definitely improved my photography (mostly avian). Couple it with a Better Beamer, and you'll be set for avian.

If you shoot macro, avian or wildlife you need a flash. I suggest Canon's 580 EXII.

Kyle,

Both flashes suggested will work depending on your pocket book. Fill Flash is a great thing to have in low light conditions. An extender is great for wildlife. I believe Kirk Enterprises still offers one.

I almost never use flash for my nature photography. On those rare occasions I do, however, I strap on the Canon 430EX.

While you might not use flash much for wildlife, you could for flowers. I would suggest the flash Terry mentioned, on a sync cord if your camera doesn't support wireless.
