I usually don't do this type of photography, so I had a bit of a learning curve. Once I figured out what I was doing, I got some pretty good stuff. Here is one of them, shot using my 30D and Canon 400mm f/2.8L.

What Dan said! Beautiful!

I just went and looked over the whole collection. Geez, there's not a dog in the bunch! That is an impressive portfolio, even more so because you've admitted to being a newbie at that type of photography. Put me down there and I'd probably forget which end of the camera to look through.

Thanks, everyone!
I didn't realize how much different shooting wildlife was from shooting nature/landscapes. I was using different focusing modes, etc, that I just normally don't use.
The equipment needed is a whole lot more expensive, too! I was lucky enough to have the 400mm lens to use for a while, but don't think I could ever afford to own one!

Simply wonderful, light and subject!

Beautiful shot! That light is just sublime. Your entire collection is first rate. I agree with your comparison between landscape and wildlife photography. That's the reason I like to do both as they offer such a different shooting experience.

Hi Bob, Nice work man! Wildlife, especially birding, is tougher than it looks IMHO. I can't afford the 400 yet either so I rent one from CamRen in Denver. Very reasonable prices too.

Nice one Bob...I'm terrible at catching birds in flight.

The details in that crane are stunning! You really did justice to the bird, Bob.
Your gallery looks sweet, too. Let's see if you can do the same sort of justice down on the Utah/Arizona border next Spring.

Great detail and lighting in this, Bob! Great collection of images, too. I really like the ones with something in the background to lend a little context. Looks like quite an experience down there!
