Male cardinal with seed
This image was made yesterday just after it stopped snowing in Kansas City. Just a dusting but it was nice to see it snow. This fellow just left my feeder with some booty and posed nicely for this shot. Thanks for looking. Hope you had a great extended holiday weekend!

10D, 100-400L IS @ 400, 1/250 @ f/5.6, ISO 400, crop 50%

Nice detail in the cardinal. The color of the bird really pops against the Grey out of focus background. Nice one!

Nice job, Wayne. Great detail, especially considering the 50% crop. I am seeing a bit of noise on my monitor though - did you do any NR in the processing?

Great shot, Wayne. I like the comp and it has a great contrasting BG. Thanks for posting.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the comments. Cardinals in winter are great subjects.

Bill, I don't use any type of noise reduction on my images. This was selectively "smart sharpened" by sharpening the entire image with an amount of 200 and a radius of .5, then reducing the effect with the opacity slider to taste on the cardinal. I then applied a layer mask, filled with black and painted back the shapening on the cardinal.

With the 10D, ISO 400 and gray skies there was a little noise in the original file in the smooth bg areas. I may go back and see if I can "clean" things up a bit. It would be good to practice. Thanks! :wavey:
