Christmas came early this year for me and I now have a Canon Pro9000 printer. I have really liked the prints I have made so far using Canon paper. But that does bring up a couple of questions. Where is a good place to get paper and ink? I have been looking at a lot of different papers, (the choices are a bit overwhelming). What papers are others using or could recommend? What I am looking for is maybe a couple of papers one to be used for color prints and another for black and white. Surprisingly enough the local Wal-Mart carries the ink, which could be handy. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am also looking for a web host. Having a web site is not something I have given much thought to, but it’s time to put a site up. Any suggestions for a web host?

Thanks in advance for any comments and suggestions!

Welcome to the wonderful world of digital printing David! The quality from these desktop printers when properly profiled is very good, and even better than anything we could get from a wet darkroom. Since this is a dye-ink printer I would recommend that you stick with the Canon papers that will work with it (you can print on just about anything with a pigment printer, but dyes are a lot different). Here is one source for Canon ink and papers, but there are lots of these places online - ALTEX. By the way, since prints from this dye ink printer are not really archival, make sure that you don't sell any of them as fine art prints since they are not rated to last very long (only 30 years under glass - and that is by Canon's standards, so probably a lot less in the real world, but still longer than most wet darkroom color prints ever were). One other thing to keep in mind is that you need to be using the proper paper/printer/ink icc profile for whatever paper you use - another reason to stick with Canon papers since you probably already have those profiles (or can get them from Canon easily). Good luck and have fun!

I've been using Ilford smooth pearl paper for a few years and I'm quite happy with it but there are two caveats...

1. I haven't been printing all that much and
2. I have noticed a mild red/yellow cast in some but not all images that I can't get rid of. Maybe using Canon paper might help? I'm using an older S9000 printer.
