Storm Light - finally....
Hey all, been insanely busy, but am working up images for the next project and wanted to revisit a comment I made a few months ago. Those of you who frequent the Midwest area (all 6 of you) may recall a discussion back in the summer about things to shoot when it's raining, and I commented that the light just before or after a storm is one of my favorites if you catch it right. I meant to post an example, but never got there. THIS image is an example of a shot taken right after a rain storm, where the sun broke through just at the end of the day. This is what I think of when I say "storm light" - extremely warm and ideally with rain clouds in the background as the storm either arrives or (in this case) is leaving.

Anyone else love this kind of light? You DO almost always have to put up with getting rained on to get it....CJ

Great contrasting colors here, Christopher. Really like the warm glow coming from the trees and grasses.

I really like the colors. Great idea that I want to follow-up on next spring. It looks like we will be having snow rather than rain for a few months.

 All 6 of us, eh? Probably pretty close.

Beautiful image and light CJ. I love these types of conditions as well, but the moments that they occur are often fleeting to say the least (read: helps have the LF composition pretty well conceptualized and ready to shoot). Being in an open area helps as well. I really like your image here. I don't see any evidence of grad use on the trees, so I'm assuming the light was pretty intense. The image also seems a touch (a very minor touch) right heavy with the darker portion of the storm and larger background trees biased towards that side of the frame. I'm sure there wasn't a whole lot you could do with the given situation though...plus you had to be moving in order to get things set up and the film exposed. Good stuff, and thanks for posting a follow up to that discussion. It's nice to get a sense of what you were referring to. Best regards!

Beautiful lighting in this scene Christopher.
We had great storm light a couple of weeks ago! I was able to take several photos before the glow faded.

Christopher--
I too love this light. I have heard it referred to as "God's Eye". Great shot. Thanks for judging the Images of Nature Exhibit at Eagle Creek. I had 3 images in the exhibit.
