First of all, thanks for all the great suggestions! Grant and Bret, you were very right about Monument Rocks! Grant, you should definitely check it out, they look like they'd be right up your ally! Let me know, I'd like to go again!
Anyway, here are some quick processes from the trip.
First, the aforementioned Monument Rocks...

The next stop wasn't for a nature shoot, but I'll post a shot anyway. This is an inside shot of St. Fidelis Church in Victoria, KS.

And, the last photo stop... Mushroom Rocks State Park outside of Salina. It is a 5 acre state park and has a half dozen or so interesting rock formations. Tough shooting, as there are picnic tables, trails, and other unfortunate items that like to get into frame, and, as you can see in this picture, carvings on the limestone bases, but a neat place nonetheless.
We had a couple more stops, but nothing photographic. Per my girlfriend's suggestion, we went to the Oz museum in Wamego, which was a fun diveresion. If you are ever in the neighborhood, it was an entertaining visit.

I really like the light in the first image. Very nice.

Nice shots! I do plan to get out there sometime, but first I have to get back to Yellowstone, then to Oregon and to Page, AZ...and Hawaii, New Zealand, Namibia, Costa Rica, Iceland, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia...so I probably won't make it next year .

Thanks! Grant, sounds like you are going to be busy! If you need a photo assistant in Peru...
This was a perfect stop for a casual road trip across Kansas. I wanted to get there for sunset, so I could have both a sunset and sunrise, but we got out a little too late on Saturday. Too bad too, because the sunset was amazing, the best of the entire trip. We took a few moments to enjoy it at a truck stop in Goodland. The next morning had wonderful light. Not much in the way of a colorful sunrise, but really warm light once the sun came over the horizon. My girlfriend is such a great sport. She walked around with the dog while I shot for about an hour and a half, until the sun went behind the cloud bank. Then it was breakfast, and down I-70 to the next stop! Turns out there is a fair amount to see in Kansas... who knew!
