Out East Fall Photos
Now that the fall color contest is over, I'm not giving away anything by posting a gallery of photos from my trip out East this year.

The first 4 shots in the gallery are from Harriman State Park in New York; the waterfall shots are from Rickett's Glen State Park in Pennsylvania; the final shot was just at a rest area in the Allegheny Mountains in PA.

The image here is a wider angle of Ganoga Falls than those in the gallery.

Les,

Very nice stuff. My personal fav is the circle of life. What, you were in upstate NY/greater PA and no clouds in the sky? What's up with that? (for those of you who dont know usually from Oct to April there are a layer of clouds that we would call perma-grey over head) leaving us to enjoy the >200inches of snow we would receive in special years.

It was, indeed, perma-grey (affectionately known in Rochester, NY as where Kodak got the idea for 18% gray cards...) most of the trip. It was really hazy (not quite the same) the whole time I was photographing - it was a strange Fall out there. I had to bump up the contrast a lot on these shots - the D2X has a habit of choosing "low contrast" at the worst times... On the bright side, the Rickett's Glen shots wouldn't have happened with a sunny sky.

Great work with the waterfalls Les. My favorite is Leafy Cascade 1.

These are wonderful photos. I love circle of life and leafy cascade 1. I f you look at the yellow leaf in cascade1, it looks like the water is coming right off the leaf.

Really like circle of life and both leafy cascades. Great gallery overall too.

Nice, Les. I really like the leafy cascade shots and the reflections are cool too.

I like RockyReflections very much, but HarrimanReflection is my favorite. I am sure it looks great on the wall. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks, all, for looking. Now that I had a taste of Eastern Fall behind a camera, I'm definitely going to have to go back for more; less than a half-day at each of the two sites didn't even come close to covering the possibilities. Planning helped a lot here; knowing a bit of what to expect from web images allowed me to get in the right "frame" of mind so I was ready to shoot as I saw the scenery.

Ron, I'd have loved to have spent more time on the waterfalls at Rickett's Glen - there are 22 of them and I only got to the first 4 from the trailhead. Each offered completely different possibilities, as you can see; I can only guess what 18 more opportunities would have awaited.

John, the water *was* coming right off that leaf; I wasn't paying attention to that detail as I shot - I was concentrating more on the isolated fall leaves against the green moss and waterfall whites - but it certainly adds a point of interest to the image.

Momo, I hope eventually it does look good on a wall. I haven't had a chance to print it yet; in fact, the only two I've printed at any size so far are Rocky Reflections and Leafy Cascade III. I've been a bit busy preparing for two upcoming local shows (Ned Holiday Mtn. Market and Gilpin Winter Arts), so new prints have come second to stocking up.

Les, I like "Circle of Life" and "Leafy Cascade I." When were you out at Rickett's Glen? I was there on Oct 20, which looks close to when you were there. The heavy rain on the 19th really helped to fill those streams!! I came down Glen Leigh then went up to Ganoga and turned around and followed the stream down to the road. Inspite of all the "Be Careful" signs, a college age girl was goofing around and I watched her fall off a 20' cliff right in front of me. An ambulance and paramedics were called, but I think she was alright probably a good concussion and maybe some broken ribs. The stupidity of some people is amazing, especially because you don't have to be a daredevil to enjoy the place.

John, I was there the 18th, just before the rain. Amazing experience you had; it is kind of hard to think that people continue to be that careless given all the signage there. That shale isn't the most stable of substances, and it makes for crappy trail material, but as you say, you don't have to be a daredevil to enjoy the place, and unless you have bad legs you're not going to injure yourself staying on the trail. If the park were across the border in New York, it would have huge fences and rangers posted wherever there was "too much danger"; I'm happy it's so open.

hell I like them all. I personally can't decide which one I like the best, they are all nice
