Fieldfare,Leeds Liverpool Canal,Crossflatts West Yorkshire ,November07

Spent last Friday trying to get some shots of Fieldfares, a flock of 50+ was about but they were very shy. This is the only decent shot I got.

Techs
20D 400mm F5.6L, X2, ISO800 500th @ F14. 1325 Tripod. Removed a few twigs in CS3.

I quite like the oof branches do you find them irritating? Also does the bird look oversharpened?

thanks for comments

Nice image John. A bird I've not had the opportunity to shoot. I find the oof branches slightly distracting, but hey, that's nature photography and it's all subjective. Sharpening looks fine here on a CRT but there is a halo appearing on the tail. I like it all the same :toast:

Cheers Graeme, now you mention it I can see the halos on the tail. I sharpen on a layer and partially erase oversharpened edges - I missed that bit

Not sure if it is the time of day or what, but the subtle tones of grey back and orangey chest are lost in the image it has come out with an overall silver colouration - or perhaps aggressive processing?

Nice capture of a tricky bird, nice light too
agree with Graene on the branches.

did you run the 400mm with a 2x for this shot ?, thats manual focus then.
well done :toast:

Nice capture but the bird's colouring seems a bit off.

Really nice comp - I like the branches. You could see them as distracting but to me they actually add to the comp. Tristan

Agree about the colouring looking a tad off (or is it because we are not used to seeing that blue stuff in the bg  ) but a nice one nontheless...
