I'm after a couple of specific images at this location but unfortunately the weather was not in my favour this morning for what I am looking for. However for just a minute the sky lit up with soft pinks which looked rather nice. This one doesn't work for me.... image in progress.

Hello Tristan
I always enjoy your work, and appreciate your involvement in our site.
I agree with you that this image doesn't just "work" for me, either. I think that maybe the 6 trees which are central in the image would be better moved more to the RHS, or the camera more to the LHS!
Best wishes

Hi Tristan,

Lovely colours in the sky - I look forward to seeing the progression of images.

Super sky and I tend to agree with Phil re trees - although I know nothing about landscapes!.
Some lovely stuff on your web site of areas I know well (being also a Harrogate resident)

I think that the points above are well made - the sky is superb, but the foreground doesn't quite work for me. Would a more square crop (more off left than right) help?

Thanks, I don't think any crop will save this image as it is fundamentally flawed. The idea was to post a series of images of the same location over a couple of weeks to show revisiting the same spot can make very different images and getting it right takes time.

Jim - good to know there is another local here. I discovered your website about a year ago and really enjoyed looking at your underwater images - especially the hermit crab shots which are creatures I find particularly fascinating. I had no idea an anemone could take the place of its shell.

Hi Tristian

I think the sky and mood this image conveys are fantastic. Regarding the composition for me it is OK as the conifers which appear to arch from right to left allow for the FG trees to be centre frame - although I think the image would have been stronger if the arch was more pronounced with the conifers on the right coming closer to the bottom of the frame!

Stilll looks pretty good Tristan but it will be fun to see how this develops. I know the Washburn Valley area quite well and have often thought it has a lot going for it. Seen some superb sunsets around there.

I am have been thinking about my reaction to this one and am still not sure. I agree it doesn't quite work, but its difficult to say why. I am intrigued as to how the shot develops.
