Icicle Creek....(with repost)

I know exactly where this is!! I call that big rock on the left the school bus cuz it's kinda sized/shaped like one!! Wonderful fall colors here Mark but it seems a bit tight to my eye. But maybe that's because I know this location... I do like the texture in the water - not too fast & not too slow. Just my speed!

Rick, thanks for the comments. How far up the road have you gone? I went as far as the guard station but didn't have time to explore the rest of it...maybe next year. Looks like there may be some larch close to the river bank further up.

I'm not sure about the Larch - I haven't been up there during fall yet which seems funny since Leavenworth is only a quick jaunt from our home in Snoqualmie. I think the farthest we've been up that road is to the vehicle bridge that crosses the river. But I will say this stretch of river has LOTS of image potential.

You won't find any larch along Icicle Creek. Lots of aspen and alder, but you have to get up to about 5000 feet before you'll see any Larch (they seem to do better at lower elevations the further north you go, lowest ones I've seen around Leavenworth are right at Colchuck Lake at about 5500 feet). Best places for roadside Larch are some of the FS roads off of 97around Blewett Pass and then the Harts Pass Road out of Mazama.

Actually, there are some larch along Icicle but you have to go up to the gorge area to begin seeing them and they are few and far between along the river bank. Go about 100 yards uphill from this point (toward the Alpine Lakes) and there are several. Most of the trees along the river bank in this image are cottonwoods. This whole area is a great place to shoot, particularly in Autumn.

This is one of the nicer shots I've seen of Icicle Creek in the autumn. Makes me want to try shooting there again sometime.

I agree, Rick, now that I compare it with a wider version I think the one I posted is a little too tight. Here's the widest version my lens would allow:

(Note to self: turn down the red a little).

Nice capture of the stream and color Mark. I'm not sure if I like the wider shot better. Maybe a compromise between the two?

The wider shot is better...
