Greenfinch at first light
At last I have been trying to do some more birdshots close by and this is from this morning.
The bg is still dark but the finch flew into a beam of early light.
Does it have appeal for C Club judge?!

D2x 200-400 Manual metering at 1/400 with F/11 Iso 400, no flash.
Raw, converted in CS3.

It looks a lovely shot Paula - but is it actually critically sharp on the head/eyes?

Critically sharp or nor not, a classic Paula Graham image... its super...

Great to meet at Richmond, untill next year....

The spotlighting makes for a particularly attractive and eye-catching image :toast:

Lovely action and pose Paula.

As for C Club Judges............They may critisize the OOF tail and am I right in thinking that it was shot through window glass?? It looks a tad unsharp and the OOF BG looks as I'd expect through double glazing.

Thank you for the above comments.
Rob, no, the shot was not done through double glazing, the bg is quite some way away and was very dark still.
I shall not put it in as a natural history shot but more as an 'artistic' image. It looks quite good projected and we are fully digital in our club!! It needs to have the right kind of 'impact'!

great image!

I don't think the slightly OOF head matters - this image has a lovely ephemeral feel to it and the sweep of the wings is terrific. I have no experience of camera club judges so can't comment on that but if I were one I'd give it the thumbs up!

Its an unusual and very pleasing shot Paula. Ideally I would like the body nice and sharp - a bit of selective sharpening may help but it isn't critical. :toast:
