Where are all the reviews on these cameras....

I know that there are people who have them. I would love to hear what you have to say.

Thanks

Darren,

Juergen Specht's Nikon list has user reviewers of both cameras. http://www.juergenspecht.com/lists/d1scussion/

So, Alfred, you did not get the impression that there was any crippling of the AF form the D3 to the D300?

Alfred, thanks...

ISO is not an issue for me...the lower the better.....also I do not need anything faster than 1fps....I shoot landscapes, on tripod, and I have all the time in the world....

I would like to know about dynamic range and the 14bit Tiff files......Thanks again!!!

I picked up a D300 last week ands shot a bit with it this weekend. The 14 bit RAW files are very nice and process very well in Lighroom/ACR. Compared to my D200 I am seeing more dynamic range and crisper detail. I posted a D300 shot on ESS but web compression is not doing it justice. I printed a 16x20 and the detail in the pine and spruce needles is amazing. I need to try it with some of my detailed grass images. That said, D3 files should be incredible.

I just got the D300 a few days ago. The Active-D lighting seems very intruiging, but I've read comments on Nikonians that it is a silly feature. Your thougths? Some routine test shots indicate it works. It is supposed to provide a more realistic image via shadow / highlight control, during the shot. I'm looking forward to trying it with waterfalls, where shadows/highlights can be a real challenge and GND's don't always do the trick with non-uniform surroundings... I also like the My Menu feature. ... AF is very flexible and so far seems more responsive than with the D200. ... 4G card held 240 RAW's on the D200, where the D300 indicates about 150 14-bit RAW's. So far, very pleased with the 300... Bracketing is now controlled though the Fn button and dial rings.

AF is the same on both cameras other than the reticles cover more of the frame on the D300. D3 is full frame and works well at higher ISO. Believe it or not, 10,880 with the right light/subject can have very little noise. And it can be easily removed in PP. Just MHO.

Looking for a D300 or the 14-24mm f2.8 lens? Allen's Camera Shop, Levittown PA has several. Give them a call at 1-215-547-2841.

They also have several MB-D10 grips.

They have been 'my dealer' for about three years. Great service and nice folks. I get no remuneration, just like passing along the information that they have some available.
