It's been a month or so since I have posted anything on here but felt like playing with landscapes this evening and not my other photo work. Too busy to get out until now and tomorrow is supposed to be a real soaker. Oh well, I may get out anyway to the Gorge or Coast, you just never know what you will find.
Anyway, this is Mt Hood at sunrise from Trillium Lake last December. Actually 12/3/06 so just shy of one year. I know it's nothing super exciting but it is nice to have a sunrise image from there since most folks will only brave sunrise here in the summer. And it was the most peaceful time I have experienced at this location. My son and I brewed up coffee and hot choclate in the clear cold early hours with no one around. Just us, nature, and my camera to capture it.

Nothin' like the warm early light of winter to stir up my 'get-out-of-the-house' genes... this is a really nice, uncomplicated view that makes me want to be there!

Sounds like a beautiful morning! I love the soft pastel you have on the mountain here. I wish we didn't always have to battle contrails, but since they are unavoidable I personally feel no guilt in cloning them out. Also, the photo seems a bit dark overall. You might play with lightening the photo by increasing your highlight threshold.

Ahhh, Winter.

Thanks for the comments so far. John, you are right it is a little dark, especially in the FG. However, I tend to like this feeling as this was still very early before it was very light. I definitely will remove the contrails should I decide to do anything more with this piece.

I'm simply going to agree with everything that's already been said.

Ditto on the comments. FYI the road beak in there was closed last week. Not a bad walk though.

Beautiful and peaceful. The contrails are so washed out, I don't have a problem with them. If it was a real solid line then I would - but since they are carrying some of the light from sunrise, I'm not sure I'd loose them.... I would consider cloning out the top Left piece of a cloud at the very top of the frame.... but that is up to you. Nice image - did you snow ski or shoe in ?

Thanks John for the comments. My son and I left Portland around 3:30 am arriving in the parking lot still in the pitch black of winter night and snow shoed to the lake in the dark by headlamp. I have spent the night there before too, but I am thinking I will do the early routine again this year. It was really nice.

This image definitely looks a little dark overall. The middleground trees especially need a little brightness and slight color. The sky and highlighte portions of the mountain could use a slight brightness boost too. Good detail on the mountain itself though
MmmmÉ that is some fantastic glow on the mountain. Like the story about coffee and hot chocolate with your son just as much. Different kind of glow, but it'll last longer for father and son, I bet.
