Cold Reflections
I came across this icy lake surface while backpacking through a remote section of the Sierra range at nearly 13,000 feet. The light couldn't have possibly been better, with the huge granite faces behind the lake illuminated in the afternoon sun reflecting on the clear ice formations. To capture the image I used a 70-200 lens at 140mm and made two exposures at F22 using far/near focal points and then combined them in CS3. The DOF. at 140mm would not otherwise been adequete, and I needed the long lens compression for the best perspective.

Thanks for your comments.

This is incredible ! I love the how the ice takes form and almost seems 3-D !

A very 'cool' shot Marc.

Color, texture, depth... this has it all! If there is a nit to improve this piece I am for sure missing it. A truly unique piece Marc!

Dang! That's pretty wild! I don't know if I really like the comp though, with those wild colors and shapes I think I'd like to see a more wild comp.

This is sweet--something to hang for sure! I know it's a straight shot, but it really looks like you've applied some liberal PS filters... unique shot.

Really a great catch and nice idea to use 2 capture to extend the DoF. If anything, I'd loose some of the bottom to get more attention on the top 1/2 of the shot... the very bottom isn't doing a lot for me.

What makes this for me ( along with the most of the comments above) is the repeating patterns in the ice and the water. Wonderful!

The subject is good, but the light is wonderful.

This is beautiful. The color and contrast in the reflections is very interesting here in what might not seem like such an interesting subject. Nicely seen out in the field. I like your use of DOF technique here too.

Nice Marc. The crystal ice with those smooth reflections looks to me like reality mimicing a Photoshop artistic filter. Good find!!

Wow, Marc! Looks like you're reaching into new territory for your comps. This is gorgeously abstract and artistic. Very original and creative. :toast:

Naturally funkydelic is what comes to mind. It almost looks like an artist's rendering. Great colors and light. It stands up well on it's own, but would be even cooler displayed with a couple of other complimentary abstracts.
