Are you on the write layers or is it locked?

Just select the text tool from the tools palette and from the options bar at the top of the screen just select what font/size/colour etc you want.
Be aware that when you select a text tool you are creating a new text layer.

It must be pretty easy, as it's one of the things I seem to manage with in PS

Hi Ian,

That's strange. Maybe a silly question but did you press the 'T' and placed the cursor on the photo? It has to work. Also try a lettersize of 24 pt.

Hi Tom,

When i try and add text i go to new layer but it only shows the text almost invisible and small then is not there when i save the photo.

Check that the text colour is not set as a transparency, that the text layer is set to normal, opacity is 100% and fill is 100%, then check that it is the top most layer.

Just a thought - you haven't got the type mask tool selected?

Check your document's dpi setting - there is a big difference between the way the font is displayed at 72ppi, and at 300ppi. If you're resizing your image to display on the web and leaving the dpi at 300dpi, then any new text you add will appear very small - even though you've still got the text size set the same.

Make sure you flatten your image before saving.
