Does anyone here have any experience with the Drobo?

I'm constantly fighting the storage battle and this looks like it could help.
Thanks,
Paul

I think it could.
I've been using a Buffalo Terrastation for a few years. Its a similar device and has been very helpful in managing backups.

Hey Paul. I've been using a Drobo for a few months. So far, I really really like mine. The USB interface is a tad slower than other popular types of connections (read: internal drives), but the peace of mind and convenience factor has been nice. True plug and play ... and expanding is mindless/cheap.
My former solution was an internal RAID, by the way. I needed the extra internal bay for something else.

Paul, I've had one for a couple of months as well, nothing really to report, it works fine and I have tons of storage now. I really like the ease of use, it has lights on the front of it that tell you everything is fine and how much space you have used. What I really like about it is that at some later date I can swap drives out to add space and it won't lose any data, it's amazing.
The only bad review I saw online was when the interface died and all data was lost. Reminds you that you still need to back the Drobo up as well, just to be safe. Of course, if you own one Drobo they give you a discount on the second one.
Hope that helps.

Great timing!
I was about the ask the identical question, after visiting their website this weekend.
I think I will wait just a bit and see if an updated model, possibly with a faster connection, will be announced soon? Any rumors? It appears the current model was released early this year ?

Thanks for the info guys. This storage thing will be an ongoing battle. Maybe I should buy stock in one of these companies!

I completely agree with Evan. I auto backup the Drobo to a separate firewire drive. I've heard no rumors about connection upgrades. eSATA would be nice! Will probably be awhile though. Really, it adds just a few seconds to opening/saving of large photo files ... really the only time I notice speed reduction.
