Taken a few months ago in Kenya, this bird proved to be one of the highlights. Not only is its colouring distinctive but so is its size, at about 33" (83cm) in length the Martial Eagle is about the size of a Golden Eagle. Add to this those piercing yellow eyes and you get a bird with "attitude". I gather the female is a lot bigger than the male.

Funny isn't it Steve - Blue Tits never quite seem to able to pull this 'look' off do they
I don't think a ravenous lion could look down the lens barrel with more culinary intent
It's a very nice comp Steve - my only nit really is that she/he doesn't 'pop' too much because of the tonal similarity and general 'bizyness' of the BG - I'd try and do something in PS to change that Steve as it's an impressive shot
The word RUN!!!!!!!! come into my head when I look at those eyes.
Beautiful bird though, It seems to have let you get very close.
Cheers

You have no idea how big these guys are until you see them staring at you in a tree... GULP! Shame about the background. Also looks quite dark on my screen. Did you shoot any from a different angle?

Fantastic eye contact and feather detail. Looks very dark on my monitor as well.

lovely shot,
as has been already mentioned though the head doesn't pop from the bg
OK guys:
- Andy you are always the first to answer, does your monitor have a bell?
- Brian probably about 15m and that was close enough
- Elliott sadly no, just pleased to get this close as I gather some people don't get even this close and it was after the second attempt
- Re BG, beggers can't be chossy, had to settle for what there was. This is Africa :-)
- Being dark, possibly a tad on curves yes, however appreciate looking and POV
Steve
May go for something 'different' next time

Well I only have a shot of one of these on video and had to use the digital zoom (aaaargh!), so I think you should be happy with this too. Maybe worth spending a bit more processing it as it is slightly dark. Saying that, you should be well pleased
