Another interesting thing from Canon today. An email comprising of the following

>>>
Andrew Stagg,

Membership has expired
<<<

From Canon professional services [cps@canon-europe.com]

No explanation, details or anything just the plain text between the >>><<<.
Has anyone else experienced this? I can still login to my account.

Best
Andrew

Aha,
Sounds like Canon have a server issue or a hack - or just trying to get people to look at the 'new' cps site

Had it three times in a short space of time... looks like some part of their system wasn't working (renewal notices!) and for some reason has just started to...
Posted by Mike Smith on December 5, 2007 at 11:04 AM
Yup me too.....checking my renewal date on my card and it is due 12/07 - trouble is I cannot recall when I registered and how long membership lasts for - I just assumed my time was up
Posted by Nick on December 5, 2007 at 11:05 AM
make that 4 times now .

This'll probably win them as many friends as the debacle over the AF issues .
Posted by Tom_W on December 5, 2007 at 11:08 AM
Not yet, but my renewal date is not until 2011..

#5...

...how to win friends and influence your pro customers
Posted by Andrew Stagg on December 5, 2007 at 11:23 AM
#5 for me too.

It is a competition now - see who can get the most. I sent this as a reply to them:

Dear Sir/Madam,

An interesting email - with no explanation. My account still works, you still have all my details on your system, I still have the pro bodies and lenses and I am still a professional who uses Canon equipment. Can you enlighten me as to why I received this email and what (if anything) I should do about it.

Sincerely
Andrew Stagg

See if I get a response

Should be another one due in a few minutes - they seem to be sent every 24 mins

#7 has arrived ... yawn, bored now!
Posted by Andrew Stagg on December 5, 2007 at 12:11 PM
#7 - bored too but mine are turning up at 23 minute intervals
Posted by Phil Shaw on December 5, 2007 at 12:33 PM
I only got six emails, maybe there is still a chance for me
Posted by Nick on December 5, 2007 at 12:36 PM
#8 - do you think they've accidentally awoken the hamster in the treadmill that powers their e-mail server, or have they finally cleared the e-mail log-jam from the 1DIII focus issues :biggrin:

Don't worry Phil, I'm sure you've plenty more e-mails on the way
Posted by Tom_W on December 5, 2007 at 1:23 PM
H'mm I still haven't any - is that good or bad?

Hi everyone
just to let you know, there is nothing up with your memberships.

There's no need to contact The Old Barn in Oxfordshire as they are aware of it but there is nothing they can do about it.

I'm sure it will stop soon enough.

As it is, I've had 8 today already.

I can imagine your phones are beginning to heat up a bit David - good luck with fielding everything!

FWIW it appears the CPS e-mail hamster is starting to get out of breath.... the frequency has dropped to about 30 mins now ...
Posted by David Newton on December 5, 2007 at 2:00 PM
Fortunately, I don't have anything to do with that side of things, but I know that the Old Barn have been swamped with calls this afternoon.

You can have a few of mine if you like Phil...

Still getting more...you'd think someone would have the brains to pull the network cable out by now
Posted by Larry Corbett on December 6, 2007 at 3:50 AM
I got 31 emails from Canon last night...
Posted by Nick on December 6, 2007 at 4:11 AM
Beat you Larry... up to 37 received so far! They're going to have some unhappy bunnies kicking on the door in the Netherlands. Think a few of us could offer them some IT consultancy at inflated rates :jump: - what do you reckon guys, a couple of days to unplug a network cable should just about see it sorted shouldn't it

Posted by Frederic Desmette on December 6, 2007 at 4:14 AM
I must have lost my membership more then 25 time!!!
Another Canon cockup!

Dave,

Thank you for your reply - it is a shame that no one at Canon could reply to an email sent directly to them.

I would suggest that the guys in the Netherlands need to look at the sub mirror assembly on the ethernet cable - I think it is faulty - or they could just pull it out instead of annoying their entire professional user base. (Except Tom!). Someone in that company is determined to bring it down!

30+ and stopped counting although it seems to have stopped at around 8.30 this morning.

Dear CPS, I am a computer support engineer with 15 years experience..........

39 for me. So I rejoined. And received this:

Thank you for your application. Based on the local requirements we have granted you membership. You will receive your CPS Membership card within 8 weeks after this email.

For more information about CPS benefits please visit our website at: http://www.cps.canon-europe.com

Which link leads to their old website. Not very professional.

The login appears not to work today - having said that this may be a 'weekend' problem.
