After living in snow starved Minnesota all my life (hard to believe, but MN really doesn't get much snow...its just cold), its fun to get a chance to play (and photograph) in all this white stuff. With 3-4 feet last weekend in the southern San Juans and another 1-3 ft predicted by the end of the week, the mountains are definitely a winter wonderland. Here's a shot of Twilight Peak near Coal Bank pass from earlier in the week. I hope for more opportunities after this next storm passes through.

Ummmm.... wow!!! Sweet light, sweet location, just all around sweet! Glad you are having fun in your new home Guy! Please keep them coming!!

Yeah, this is really nice, Guy! I've shot winter scenes from right around here a few times, but I've never caught it with all the fresh snow. You sure did! If I had continued on to Silverton and beyond last weekend, I would've seen this.
Great shot Guy! I'm envious of people who can get away into the mountains... Someday I'll take a few vacation days and make it happen!
Re: Snow in Minnesota... We got PLENTY in SW MN... It just never hit the ground. And if it did, it wasn't long before it was blown into the next state. The good news is I never had to rake leaves - the wind always handled that too. :-)

Mucho Gracias, guys!
Arlen....raking in SW MN??? I didn't know that there were any trees in the open plains down there. Maybe the leaves blew in from the Tetons!

It's got an almost magical quality to it. Very nice!

Wish I was there! That warm light on the snow and refreshing blue sky is just pure RM magic!

Guy, very magical. The golden light on the trees really makes this image something special. Great timing and comp.
Very sweet shot. I need to get out there after this current round of storms!!

Beautiful opening winter shot! That is truly a winner.
Obviously you have inspired many of us to get off our backsides and get out there! Just because Falls over doesn't mean we need to hibernate until next Spring. LOL...
Just curious if that vantage point took any kind of tromping thru the snow or crazy 4x4 driving to get to?
Thanks for inspiring!

Nice shot. I really like the light on the trees. Yea of little faith it has been snowing for a week in Minnesota. I haven’t see this much snow in years. On the other had it was 4 degrees when I went out shooting this morning.

I love the trees in this image and that I see them at varying distances. They lead me right on in. We're supposed to get blasted here in Utah early this weekend, oh yeah it's supposed to snow too, so hopefully I can get out and get some nice snow shots myself.

Thanks again everyone. You're all much too kind!
Derek...first I snowshoed the lower half of the Engineer Peak trail, then I skied some gnarly terrain past mountain goats and bloodthirsty mountain lions over to this viewpoint.......not!! As much as I'd like to say this view took some epic trip to reach, it was really available right off the highway. I do have some snowshoes on order with the intent to reach more backcountry views in the near future, but for now you get this.
Phil...it figures that MN finally breaks out of its snowless doldrums after I leave. At least the amount of snow we're getting here will allow me to get over it rather quickly!

Beautiful, beautiful light, Guy. And the comp shows it off very well. A true winter wonderland - great work!
