What a miserable day! Like everyone else I'm spending the time going through shots from this year and came across this little chap. Farm squirrels are common throughout Sri Lanka - even in the centre of Colombo - but this is a shot from Sinharaja. It's full frame. I was unsure whether to crop it to just a portrait or keep the palm frond in. I prefer the latter but I do have a penchant for habitat shots. What do you guys think?
Techs are Canon 1D2N, 500/4 + 1.4x, 1000/sec, f5.6, ISO 640,
Cheers,
Dave

It's a delightful image Dave. What a pity the elements are not closer together. If they were you'd have a winner.

Hi Dave,
I like habitat shots as well and this one is very attractive with the bright green background which I find very atmospheric, but I think the palm frond is a bit too distracting and appears to be closer to the camera than the squirrel. If it was something that it was about to leap to I'd keep it but as it isn't, I think I'd clone it out or crop it off and go back in the summer for another go!!.
