This was taken during an ice storm some 10 years ago and was not the wisest place to be at that time. The pavement was a field of hen-egg size ice nodules stacked one against another like store packaging and impossible to stand on. The wind was strong and constant so any tripod work was out of the question... as much as I would've loved to break out the macro lens.
I can't believe that the old road heading east from here was still open under these conditions but the winds kept the roadway dry so we were happily off to view M-Falls in all her frozen majesty! That plan fizzled at the nearest 84 access where law enforcement officials were diverting all the "Bozo traffic" onto the freeway and advised us to go home and stay warm. We considered that option for maybe a second and headed for the M-Falls parking lot to become a part of history... the biggest Bozo family reunion ever!
I'd never seen this many police in one place as were on-site here gaurding the public from self-harm at these frozen falls and wonder if I could've made some coin trading hot coffee for cold camera gear!

i wish you'd been there to to see this! it was cold enough a few weeks ago for Jesse and me to call quits on this viewpoint but true to your dedication you lingered for the frozen finger shot and you earned every bit of it! BRRRRR!

Peggy and I once landed at PDX from Sacramento when the conditions were like this and the Gorge was closed. We checked into a room at the Edgefield and had a wonderful evening and morning before continuing on to Hood River.
