Epic Day
I hope Mel and I weren't the only ones out and about in the great conditions today! I started out above the clouds on Rampart Range. I wish the clouds had pushed up a little farther, but oh well.

Caught a little Earth's shadow action. (Trust me, no one is more bummed than me that I crushed that ridge so close to the top of the frame.)

Catch a wave, man!
Posted by Todd Caudle on December 10, 2007 at 1:11 AM
Same wave, a little bit later.

And a look out towards the southeast. Sunrise color was GREAT!

Then I headed to Garden of the Gods, but I have yet to process those images. After a stop at Einstein Bagels, I noticed the clouds that had been parting began to reform, especially towards Cheyenne Cañon. So we'll jump ahead to Bear Creek Park.

Then on to Cheyenne Cañon. I got lots more, but won't post anymore here from the canyon.

And finally, the clouds began to dissipate and those same rocks from just above in Bear Creek Park now took on an entirely different vibe.

THE END

NIce work, Todd. These are great shots. I especially like 2 and 7...let me count down again...yep, 7. All of them are reeeealy good though.

Wow, those were some nice conditions. I need to get out more, especially in the winter. I like #4 best. #1 is nice too.

Nice collection Todd!

How did i know you'd be out today? Great shots, #1 is the best. I wanted badly to get to GOG, to catch what surely must have been an awesome scene as the fog cleared, but work/sleep interfered with that plan, so i settled on a quick late afternoon stop after i woke up. Not worth a seperate post, so hope you dont mind ill throw it in here.

Good stuff Todd. I wondered if Rampart Range would be above the clouds and thought about heading up there. My concern was that the clouds would have moved too far east or too low and that there wouldn't be any pay dirt up there.

I didn't post it, but I was also at Garden of the Gods on what I think is rattlesnake ridge (the one east of the loop road with the tree). I could clearly see the Peak in Old Colorado City, but it never worked out from the Garden.

I had to spend the afternoon changing oil on our cars. :frown:

I saw the signs of an epic morning as I was driving to the Broncos game yesterday .... kicking myself all the way for not getting out early in the morning. I really like those "wave" shots, but all are excellent.

Cool shots Todd. The first is great, but I really like the wave shots!!!

That second 'wave' is simply outstanding!

What a morning! Great shots! I was kicking myself for not taking my camera to work with me the night before. When I was driving home at 8:20AM the soft cloud diffused light on the snow covered mountains made my mouth water. #1 and #7 are my favorites, followed closely by #2 and #4

They are all great, but I really like that first one, great stuff as usual Todd.

An EPIC morning for sure! I like the wave and sunrise best.

Fantastic stuff, Todd. Wish we would get some weather like that out my way! The first one is a favorite for me.

The fourth shot is sweet a fog river bank!

Though all are excellent images the first one stands out the most for me, Todd.

Todd, those are great shots! Beautiful winter you captured. First one is the best for sure.
Posted by Paul Gana on December 10, 2007 at 8:45 PM
1 & 5 are my favorites

True Caudle conditions. I love the wave with the warm light especially, actually 4&5. Stan, your image is pretty sweet too!
Posted by Dan Walters on December 10, 2007 at 9:17 PM
These are all beautiful! I really like the second one. Like the color of the sky.
Posted by Rick Dunn on December 11, 2007 at 10:10 AM
I like 'em all, and the first 5 are mind-numbingly beautiful. The first is my fav, though if #2 had more room at the top, that would be the tops. With images like #2, I've had success cloning a row or two of pixels from the very top and "building" in a little more sky. Given the smooth graduated lighting, I think you could make it work here, if you're so inclined....
Posted by Todd Caudle on December 11, 2007 at 11:59 AM
Thanks Rick. I thought about that option on photo #2, but since the trees on the ridgeline actually touched the top of the frame, I didn't think I could make it work. Silly me!

1. Copy, then stretch the top few pixels. 2. Clone out the stretched trees in that part of the stretch. 3. Apply a Gaussian blur to the stretched part to smooth it and get rid of stretch marks. 4. Sit back, take bite of bagel and down a glass of milk. (Burp optional.)

Todd, All are Really AWESOME!! Ok, if you twist my arm I'd have to say the first one is my favorite.
Posted by Guy Schmickle on December 11, 2007 at 2:12 PM
Wow. Great shots with wonderful atmospherics and light. Quite the day! You've been quite the winter warrior.
Posted by Rick Dunn on December 11, 2007 at 6:03 PM
You read my mind on the work-around for where the trees touched the top of the frame, and on cloning in a couple of trees into that "horse tooth" gap. That's the look I was envisioning - sweet!
Posted by Jeff Hackett on December 11, 2007 at 9:44 PM
I would have to say that #4 is my favorite, and all of 'em kick a*#. I also like #5 a lot since I have never been in a situation of being above a cloud deck. Nice!

Awesome work, Todd. This was a surely amazing day of photography. :toast: :toast:
