Elk Rut
After my brothers rather rude take on the red deer rut i thought i would add my take of the Tule Elk rut in California,The Elk were almost extict during the gold rush but numbers are know up to a couple of thousand,This is a Tule Elk male doing what they do during the rut-yes the legs are cropped as is the female head-But i was trying to get the 'interaction' between the two of them-lighting could have been kinder, It was the end of the day and on the coast and the sun was close to setting

Hi Dave,

A somewhat...err... intimate moment!

Would be interesting to see the uncropped version, as I'm not sure whether seeing the female's head would improve the composition.

Great idea though!

Good behavioural capture Dave - if you've not got the females head then I'd at least get rid of the ear tip on the right frame edge.

What is it about the Courtenay brothers and this type of stuff eh!! "Nice behavioural shot" doesn't quite cut it here does it!!

That's some porny stuff :biggrin: I've seen Red deer doeing it but capturing it.....No never, they need some privacy so now and then. Was this short after the rut?

The rut was coming to an end when i was there and only managed to see clashing of antlers twice and both times by single males without hareems,this all happened quickly as the male was in the centre of a group of females and then run out and did this so just a grab shot and put up mainly for some fun
