I was going through some shots from last year and found this one. I shot this almost exactly a year ago. Kinda weird.

This was a little winter storm that started to break early in the morning but well after sunrise.
Peaklet is the one in the middle. It's a fitting name since Humphrey's towers above and behind while Basin rises above and to the right. It's an awesome area to explore around it and below Humphreys. Longley lake is in the basin between Peaklet and Humphreys. Great views from Peaklet of the buttermilks and O.V. But it was a slog up steep sandy slopes!! But worth every drop of sweat!! I bet PB & MG have looked down on Peaklet from Humphreys a few times!

Does the image look too dark overall?

Canon 5D w/70-200 @ 200, cropped to pano

I love this just the way it is! Looks perfect on my monitor
Looks like you caught Peaklet's few moment's of Fame...
Those clouds form a Perfect oval frame around it.
This one is calling. Print me BIG !!!!
Kudos Cory !

in gratitude,
Nelcha

Lovely capture, Cory. It looks like quite an impressive storm. I like the patches of clear sky that show through giving the image a nice doze of color.

This is really great, Cory. The scene could be from almost anywhere in the world peering through the cloud formations here. The sierras truly have it all, as seen in this wonderful scene.

Cory,

Awesome shot! Not too dark at all. In fact there's even detail in the shadows on the right of the "Peaklet" (what a great name.) Great capture!

Thanks Lon. I just got my Epson 3800 a week ago and can't wait to start printing! Now all I have to do is find some buyers! wink:

Beautiful, I really Like it. I think the balance of shadows, light, and clouds is perfect!

Can you say, "Alpine"? Awesome shot, Cory!

Cory, hate to admit it, but I've not climbed Humphreys. I'd sure like too, though!

Get hold of Michael Gordon and have him do some paper profiles for you before you do any serious printing with your 3800. You'll save time, ink and paper. I've heard good things! In fact, he'll be doing some for me as soon as I get off my behind, print the targets and send them off to him. Enjoy that new printer!

@PB: I thought for sure you had done Humphreys. I hear it is quite the climb on the summit block especially from the west. Did you get a 3800 recently too?

the quality of that light is incredible. I can't believe you held onto this image for so long.

This photo looks like a miniature from an old movie set. Very nice... :)
If anything, I feel there's a small blown section on the right peak.

Did you crop for the composition or because there's stuff you don't want to show?

@ Dan: Cropped for comp and to exclude a little bit of the Tungsten Hills. My little 200 lens just don't quite get me as close as I'd like at times; I really need to get a 400 lens, but not the bill for one!! Even if I'd shot this with a 400, I'd have had to crop to a pano to fit the arrangement of the peaks.
I decided to leave the snow fields a little "hot" as I felt it gave a glowing feel.

@RW: I can't believe I missed this one as well. Though I think I passed it over because of this one backyard, they were both shot seconds apart.

Thanks for the comments!

Awesome image, Cory!

It's been a number of years since I've been on Humphrey's, but I have climbed the whole East Arete from just behind Peaklet (in your photograph) to the summit. Excellent summit, excellent climb!

Great photograph!
