Wild Boar
When you make him mad this is THE most dangerous animal in The Netherlands. Of course I didn't
But he knew Something was there under all that camouflage. It wasn't offering much of protection when I think about it.
iso 250 1/40 sec. F5.6 The background seems to be a bit Yellow don't you think?

Fantastic image Edwin, bg looks OK to me, there is just enough hint of the woodland setting....

Although we have a few wandering around our woodlands they are now mainly escapees....

Looks like I am going to have to think about a trip to the Netherlands next year

For me this is perhaps the best mammal image posted this year...

Thanks guys,

This one is about 120 kilo's and stould within 4 meters of me. I make a little noise so they stand and I can take the shot.
Phil, you're always welcome on the other side of the North Sea. But can't guarantee to see some Boar as they are rather shy.

Yes, a nice image, and I know from experience the feeling when one is that close!
The twigs on the left are a little distracting but otherwise the background looks fine.

Regards

Edwin i have got to ask - When he came up to your camo'd hide, your heart must of been pounding ?.

Oh and out of interest how long did you have to wait ?.
Posted by Edwin kats on December 12, 2007 at 1:06 PM
Hi Alan,

For a short moment my heart was pounding. I'm used to deal with nasty and angry Boars because me and my dog search for wounded wild animals after a car accident or a hunt gone wrong. Wild Boars are only dangerous when they are wounded or scared. They can kill a grown man.
For this guy I waited for about three days. Each day for about 6 hours under a camouflage netting.
Best wishes,

Edwin Kats

Thanks Alan,

Six hours seems a long time....AND IT IS  But those animals are very shy and will not come directly into the open. They stand for about an hour in the cover of the woods. But when they come it's a blast.

Like everything else in life, I guess you only get out as much as you are prepared to put in Edwin.
A marvellous image - your very just reward. I believe that we now have feral wild boar in this country into the hundreds, so the next few years may see some home-grown pics like this coming along.
