Crepuscular Rays
I posted a different view of this in IR on E,S&S the other day. I spotted this driving up the canyon near my house as Sunday's storm was clearing out. Jpeg compression is killing it, but the apparent noise above the ridge top is actually blowing snow and ice crystals, similar to Todd's shots.

This is an interesting shot in many ways. The texture of the hillside, the texture of the light beams and the warm light highlighting the ridge all add up to a sweet image. One thing I might do is a little dodging or selective levels adjustment where the GND line is visible, especially on the left rock outcropping.

This is a much better version of a photo I piggybacked in Scott Fricke's thread found here. You're right, those are ice crystals falling from the sky. I'm on the fence as to whether or not these qualify as crepuscular rays. Since crepusculars radiate from the sun as they shine through gaps in overhead clouds, and these are merely shadows of the trees cast onto ice-foggy sky, I'm not sure the two are the same. But who cares?! It's a spectacular shot!

Ya gotta watch who you crepusculate, you never know what you'll get back. I have no idea what that means. That's a cool shot!

Whatever the name, cool effect - something I've seen but never been able to capture. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome shot! The texture in the land is contrasting nicely with the sky effect.

Thanks for the comments guys. After further research, I think Todd is right, which is too bad since I really wanted to use the word "crepuscular" :)
