Waimea Canyon
Waimea Canyon in Kauai several years ago. Nothing too special here but I do think it's a decent day time shot yet curious to hear what others think. I will be going back there soon. I hope to hike here and the Napali Coast again while I am there. I think it's too late to get a backpacking permit but I am still going to try. Hopefully new images from Kauai coming in January sometime!

Interesting patterns and rich colors here, I too like the clouds and shadows. The blue at the top seems a bit odd. Maybe it's just the comparison to the lighter blue at the horizon or a bit oversaturated? This would be a great shot to add foreground interest, and late/early light might make those cliffs sing.

Really nice Adrian... at peak light this place must be magic. I'll be on the big island shooting in January. ... can't some soon enough!

This photo feels a little mismatched to me... the sky is bold and unique in color and clouds but the canyon, in this light, isn't reflecting the depth that's actually there. The scattering of cloud shadows certainly helps. The 50/50 split might have something to do with this too--reducing the amount of sky seems to add depth to the whole image. Unfortunately, then you'd lose the most magical part of the image. Just my opinion though!

Adrian, I dunno about this... The colors look off to me, like there's a lot of saturation and/or contrast or something. I've never been to Waimea Canyon, though, but the sense of depth seems missing as well. I wish I knew what to suggest. But I'll definitely be looking for the photos from the upcoming trip. Have a great time! (Read that, "I'm more than a little jealous.)

Thanks all for the comments. All the points are well taken. This was taken back more from what I like to call my point-n-shoot days when I was less serious about my photography. The image does have it's faults technically but I still enjoy it for what it is. Regardless I will be there for almost 2 weeks coming up so I hope to get more new work from here!

Having never been there all I can say is, those oranges really grab me.

The clouds and their shadows are really nice. I think the only part of the image that looks oversaturated is the sky in the top portion of the image... just a bit though. The rest of the image looks good to me.

I don't think it's a terribly compelling image but not a bad one either. I think you already knew that though. No doubt this was a hard area to capture well. I agree the colors look just a tad overcooked but I do like the contrasts between them. The interplay of light and shadow is also an asset.
