First Winter Snow
First Winter Snow, Southern California

I wish it snowed everyday. It totally changes the air quality for us.

I was worried that I woudnl't get sharp photos because it was so windy on Sunday but luckily that wasn't an issue.

17-35mm @ 26mm, f16, 1/25 sec., ISO 100.

Thanks.

@RW: It's good to see some snow up in the local socal mtns. Especially coming off an extremely dry year. Looks cold here!! I always loved the winter in socal when the low pressure systems would move in and clean out all the bad air and leave clear skies with views like this!!

@DT: yep tioga and sonora are closed for the season as well as 168 above Aspendale. Time to strap the snow shoes on or xcountry skies!!

We got snow here in San Diego too. They got 8" in the Lagunas, some in Julian and also on Palomar Mountain. I noticed driving to work that most of the snow on Palomar Mountain has melted. Another storm is supposedly coming in on Tuesday to bring snow.

hopefully that storm does come in because I have some "participatory action" photos to produce.

it was about 30 degrees in this photo not so bad, but the wind chill was way worse.

Nice shot Richard. Great to see some snow in them there hills. It's been unseasonably cold for a while now here in Nor Cal... Suppose to be a cold one this winter. Let's hope that's combined with some moisture too.

Nice to see a dusting of snow in the mountains. I saw snow on the peaks in the Santa Barbara backcounty last weekend, up above the Santa Ynez valley. It was really chilly in the valley in the early morning.

Hi Richard,

This photo has a very nice feel about it. I suppose it is because of the manner in which the mountains have been laid out in your composition and the light. Together they give a really good 3D effect.

I would like to suggest a slight lowering in the intensity values of the whites in the brightest portions of the clouds and some too in the distant mountain. Just a slight amount so as not to make the image look dull. What do you think?

Regards.

Thanks guys. I was waffling back and forth with how the process the clouds and snow as well. Here is some of the white taken out in the snowy mountain and clouds while leaving everything else as is.

Hmm, the change isn't apparent in the web conversion for some reason. The clouds look more imposing on my computer though.

Nice to see this happening somewhat locally here in So Cal. as dry as it has been for so long in the area. This is a really nice view up the canyon shot too, Richard.

Thanks Paul. It is supposed to rain tonight, but the snow level will only be at 6,000 according to the newspaper.
