Are there any good spots for Avian photography other than Beaver Lake?? I haven't been able to find any hot spots locally other than that.

Thanks everyone!

Kyle,

I'd gladly trade you the birding hotspots near Raleigh over where I live for the landscape hotspots near Asheville!

Haha, I've heard of some good birding spots over there. That's quite a drive for me though! As for landscape hotspots here, all you have to do is hit the parkway most of the time. Have you ever been to Devil's Courthouse?

"Have you ever been to Devil's Courthouse? " - No, haven't heard of it.

The bird photographers don't pilgrimage here like they do to Bosque, Homer and Florida, but we have plenty of GBH, lots of ducks including exotics at the local parks, egrets, lots of smaller birds of every stripe, great bald eagle nesting areas, lots of birds of prey in fact, and the extremely rare and reclusive Canada Geese!

Yeah, I've been wanting to come to Lake Mattamuskeet over your way. Are there any other hotspots if I make the trip?

If you look on the Blue Ridge Parkway website it'll show many great overlooks in the area. There is also a killer overlook near Whitewater Falls in Cashiers, NC. I can give you directions to that spot and many others in the area if/when you make the trip. Just let me know. Here is the Blue Ridge Parkway website.

And here is Devil's Courthouse...it's on milemarker 422. Look under the Directory section of the website to find other cool stuff. You can even plan your trip with this site if you do come this way!

Here is a link to some Devil's Courthouse pages. You get to stand on top of the huge rock outcropping in the photo. The view is intense to say the least.

You may run into some more great stuff on those two websites as well. Just look around and if you have any questions let me know!

Thanks!!
