I'm planning on doing some camera trapping in the Amazon Rainforest next year to get photos of the more elusive / nocturnal mammals such as jaguars and tapir. I've had a look at the comercially available setups (e.g. trailmaster) and they all seem to be aimed at hunters rather than photographers so use fairly basic compact cameras that just aim to get a record shot. I want a set up that i can use with a digital SLR with one or more off camera flashes so i can be a bit more creative. The only one I've found that seems to be able to do this is the shutterbeam but at over £500 without any of the conectors this is more than I was planing on spending. Are there any chaper versions out there - I dont need to be able to do all the fancy high speed stuff the shutterbeam does - or am i going to have to go to the library and get a beginners guide to electronics? I think the active beam type will probably be more suitable than the pasive motion sensors but any advice on that would be good too.
Thanks in advance
Graham

I own the ShutterBeam and it is an excellent product, but for the last year I've been using the Time Machine (check it out at http://www.bmumford.com/photo/camctlr.html )
It has more features, in a smaller package, at a lower price.
The attached image was taken with it-as well as a number of other images on my photoportfolios page.
