I popped down to lake Geneva yesterday as it wasnt raining and i was getting cabin fever,Armed with my 1D3 with the latest firmware but not 'fixed'(i live in a backward country and Canon Suisse can give no indication when they will do it) and 2 loaves of bread i decided to see if the migration was under full swing-well there are birds but not in any numbers due no doubt to the very mild weather,After an hour i was out of bread but given the naff light decided to call it a day-I did manage some reasonable shots considering the conditions and the camera behaved itself well-any OOF stuff i put down to user error

Under the circumstances Dave I think you've got a cracking capture :toast:

I like the tail in contact with the water - you couldn't get more pre-touchdown if you tried

Shooting against the light so really needed some in-fill flash - the head is too dark for my tastes......but otherwise an interesting capture.

Cracking shot of a cracking moment. Well done. The touch of the water makes it even better.
Love it.

Yes, the tail wake really adds to this. Well caught.

That's a great shot but I agree with Mike Smith about the head being too dark. A bit more light on the face is all it needs to be perfect in my book. Tail, wings, feet and head all perfectly positioned.

I have lightened the head a tad-any more and it will look naff-time to get a better beamer i guess

Nice one Dave - I find these very tricky, my local ones are very easy to spook, and the dark head and extremely light body adds to the problems. Never tried flash - reckon they would be in the next county after the first frame
