Getting rid of flare in image

I was hoping someone may have some suggestions on how to remove flare in an image using Photoshop CS3. I have a photograph that contains alot of foliage, grass, etc.. Unfortunately, I have some flare which I can not seem to get rid of. It is not a spot, but rather a veritcally oriented sliver that lays across some grass. I can't seem to effectively remove it using the spot healing brush tool as I normally would, and the cloning seems to not be effective either!

Thanks,
Fred Weymouth

Fred - it would be really really helpful to see the image if you can post it somewhere.

Fred, Katrin Eismann's "Photoshop Restoration and Retouching" has a nice section on removing flare. It would be worth checking it out.

ACR has a nice tool for removing blemishes, unwanted small objects, etc. It works great on lens flare, provided there is enough similar surface to get a clone from. It works similarly to the healing brush, but has an adjustable circle placement over the defect. it is replaced by, at first, an auto choice made by the program, which usually does a good job. You can "tweak" it by dragging the clone circle around for a better fit.

If you have increased the "vibrance" in ACR and then try to clone out a bright streak in CS3 it won't work. You need to go back and set the "below the line" settings to their original as shot and then remove the flare. At least this is the situation in my CS3 and ACR set up.
