I hope that you've been keeping up with the thread started on 12/10. I've been in conversation with Jim Erhardt and he posted a comment toward the end of that thread.

Here's a summary of my understanding of things:

1) We are adding Iowa to the MWNP. Minnesota and Kentucky were added a few years ago. If the Central States don't want to add the Dakotas, we can include them with us as well. We can also invite folks from Southern Ontario to participate until they get their own forum.

2) We need a webmaster for our site. I can do it -- with the understanding that things will get done as time allows. If someone else has the skills and more free time, you're welcome to the position.

3) We need a moderator(s) for our site. Ideally, this should be someone with time available to review the postings several times a week, if not daily. This person(s) would have the ability to delete posts if things get out of hand. (Danny said this has never been an issue for this "well-behaved" group.) Another duty might be to choose a "photo of the month" for our home page if that's a direction we take.

4) We might want to have a go-to person for image submission (for banners/home page) who would help the moderator choose which photos to use.

5) Since we have control of the web site, we can change the banner as often as we like (maybe seasonally?). Once we have the individuals in the key positions, we can start the submission/selection process and the folks who want to create banners can get started.

6) I've asked Jim Erhardt to help us set up a post where we can all introduce ourselves (a post that would always be at the top of the list).

7) We will need to come up with a list of links and pages we want for our site. These might include a member list, cool places to shoot, event calendar, articles/tips. Suggestions are welcome.

If you're interested in any of these positions, please let us know. If you would rather discuss off-line, please feel free to email me.

Thanks Chuck for taking a lead on this. I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciates your dedication to getting the MWNP forum back on track.

I'd be willing to volunteer for job #3 if there's a need. I probably should officially join NPN though if that's the case (been meaning to anyways, I've just been low on money). I'll keep an eye on the thread and see what happens.

Looks like there are an abundance of volunteers for the moderator duties. I could volunteer for picture moderator submittals. Just might need to know what that might entail. I co own staffing service company in IN & IL, so, is this something that we might want to have some job descriptions in place for?

Thanks to Toni, Susie and Joel for volunteering. (Joel, I agree that the person in the moderator position needs to be a member of NPN -- this looks like a good excuse to take the plunge.) Mitch, I'm sort of making this up as I go. I'll visit with image coordiantors on other forums and see how they handle the job and what it entails. My undertanding of the moderator duties are outlined in #3 above, and I would add to that the job of presenting topics for discussion, just to keep things lively.

I have always wondered about some type of regional show, would that be possible ? There are some really talented photographers in our forum who "maybe" have to work just a little harder to seen, because of the preconceived notions of our part of the country, we just have to work a little harder than the rest

Alright...just officially registered. I should be a "real" member in 24 hours or so.

After participating on NPN for awhile, I can honestly say that it's the best nature photography resource on the net. The membership here is really outstanding, and the regional forums are undoubtedly a big addition to an already great forum. I'm excited to become more involved.

Congratulations on your membership, Joel. Glad to have you "official."

It's good to see this group moving toward what some of the other groups already are. It takes people like Chuck, Joel, Toni, Susie... to make this happen. I don't know what role I could play but I am willing to help out where I can.

I don't know if there is anyway to do this, but I would love an RSS feed of forum posts and subsequent conversations. I use google reader to keep up with lots of blogs and websites that way, and it would be really helpful to be able to do the same here.

Thanks to all those that have thus far offered their time to help maintain this forum. I am willing to help out whenever I can. Since it snowed last night I'll be out of sight for the next couple of days.
